In their own words

Testimonials

Hear directly from the students, families and communities whose lives have been touched by fresh, nutritious meals — across our feeding programs in the USA, India and Nepal.

Thank you so much World Food Movement for all of your delicious and amazing hot meals. I was the one serving them daily, and I was able to see every single student who came in and was so, so grateful for the delicious meals that they would get every day. I myself ate some every single day of the summer... I just want to say thank you so much because the impact you made is truly amazing.

This is my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I thank God for giving you the health and strength to prepare this food for me and for others. This is showing love by sharing love with all the people who are hungry. No one needs to go hungry when there’s plenty of food here every Thursday—I’m enjoying my meals.

The meal is very nice. We get food both in the morning and evening on a daily basis. All of us here are satisfied and content. This is a great service you have been doing from your organisation.

I lost my husband and I don't have any child to take care of me in this old age. Just when I started working as domestic help, the lockdown was announced. I didn't know how to repay the debts left behind by my husband. Thanks to Akshaya Patra for giving me groceries. Now I save that money to repay loans.

The Annadaan service which you have been doing is very good. I see that more than 500-600 people are being fed twice every day. This service is extraordinary and is very essential for humanity. May the Lord take your organisation to even greater heights in your services. My best wishes and prayers in this regard.

I like mid-day meals. My favourite is Thursday’s lemon rice and tomato chutney. I believe that mid-day meals are very important. They have the vegetables we do not get otherwise. They are clean too. But the best part about it is eating together. If not for the mid-day meals, we all would carry lunch from home separately and not have a good time together. Moreover, mid-day meals are essential for those who cannot get it from home.

I cannot talk about mid-day meals enough. It is better than homemade food. There is a different menu every day. Sometimes they give curd and sometimes pickle. It is delicious. My favourite is Friday’s menu – spinach curry and rice. It is good for our health also. My teacher once told me that Saturday’s menu is good for the iron deficiency I am suffering from. We get sweet pongal and chikkis that day and they contain jaggery. Ever since I started having the mid-day meals, my haemoglobin count has risen which is why I am happy with Akshaya Patra food.

All of us like the mid-day meals that we get in school. There is a variety in taste and we also get fruits. My favourite is kheer. It has dry fruits. So I like kheer. I aim to join the Indian Navy because of two reasons: first, for my country, and second, because their uniform is the best and their attitude also.

At school, we play and have mid-day meals. I like the sambar and chawal here. If we do not eat well, we may fall sick. If I eat healthy, my brain will function well and I can learn more things. It will also help me build strength to play.

My husband was very sick. I got him admitted to the hospital. We don't have much money. They serve food here at noon. The food is very good. This initiative is very helpful for us.

They serve rice, dal, curry and curd for INR 5. Every day they serve with love and that’s enough.

Beneficiary of subsidised meals, Hyderabad

We get this meal for INR 10 and it is very nice. Farmers coming from far off places can have their meals here at affordable prices. We are happy about it.

The meal that you are serving is excellent. I have never received such a tasty meal in the entire Vrindavan. This food seems to be directly blessed by Lord Krishna and His divine consort Srimati Radharani. May the Supreme Lord bless the devotees who are distributing this food.

Sri Jagannath Baba Ji, Vrindavan

I sincerely thank Akshaya Patra for the tasty meal that came everyday without fail and for the scholarship. I can imagine how much more difficult it would have been for me otherwise.

Despite all the things that have happened, we will come up from this (earthquake). The relief kitchen initiative has also given us the strength to look forward.
